Strictly Briks: AlphaBriks/MathBriks and Brik Buster

My kids are crazy for building blocks. Wood blocks, plastic blocks, foam blocks – the material doesn’t matter as long as the imagination is active. Mix interlocking blocks with basic number and letter elements and you have a recipe for success. Strictly Briks Brik Buster game ($29.99) and AlphaBriks/MathBriks ($24.99) toys are the perfect combination of building fanciful creations and learning one’s ABCs and 123s.

Brik Buster instructs players to build towers of blocks and platforms and create a skyscraper of blocks. Then, with the the included hammer players take turns knocking out support blocks without toppling the tower. The first player to topple the tower loses! This game proved challenging and reminded me of the popular Jenga game. My children dissolved into giggles every time the structure collapsed and loved the subsequent rebuilding.

The AlphaBriks/MathBriks appealed to my preschoolers and their burgeoning interest in spelling words, sight words and simple math. Having played with Strictly Briks Stackables earlier, we already had the base plates to play with the letter/number tiles with this product. My kids immediately spelled their names as well as characters from their favorite TV shows. And my son started to build out simple math equations and then try to figure out the answers. I loved that he could proactively select the letters and numbers with little to no guidance from me. The best part? This toy comes with a drawstring bag for storing all of the small letters and numbers. No need to worry about losing pieces, having to find another storage drawer or stepping on tiles in the middle of the night – ouch! I love finding toys that think about not only the child’s enjoyment but the practical aspects of storing and organizing toys.
