Are You Eating Bread that Contains a Yoga Mat?

Yoga Mat Bread

Health is important, and what you are feeding you kids in this day and age is very important. There are so many chemicals in our food that you have to make wise choices when picking out food for your family.

About a month ago I read an article about a chemical that is used to create yoga mats. It is also used in many breads. That’s right they put it in your food. In fact if you have eaten Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, drank a beer or eaten normal store bought bread you may have been part of your meal. It’s called azodicarbonamide (ADA) it is a chemical used in yoga mats and also used in breads. Gross!

Azodicarbonamide is a chemical that helps to create that foamy feel on Yoga mats and has other various industrial uses. It is also used to help oxidize bread because it improves the gas retention of dough and leads to faster fermentation.

Azodiacarbonamide (ADA) is considered carcinogenic (cancerous) and some countries have banned it’s use (unfortunately not the U.S.).

In Australia and Europe the use of azodicarbonamide as a food additive is banned. In Singapore, the use of azodicarbonamide can result in up to 15 years imprisonment and a fine of $450,000. The United States permits the use of Azodicarbonamide at levels up to 45ppm.

After first reading about this I immediately went to my refrigerator and starting tossing out anything that contained this chemical. I found a bread in my house that actually contained this…Yuck!!

Since first learning about ADA I now ONLY buy Rudis Organic Bread products. Rudis Bread products have been a blessing. They are delicious and healthy and I can barely keep it stocked at my house. My kids are constantly just walking around eating bread. We buy the spelt bread, the white and the raisin.

Read your labels and do your research, some food you are eating today could be dangerous!
