If you were watching this past season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills you heard Housewife, Yolanda H. Foster brag about the intense juice cleanse she was on and how she dropped weight and felt great. Based on her extreme results it left me wondering what was in this detoxifying miracle weight loss cleanse.
The cleanse was created by Stanley Burroughs who first developed it as a detox remedy. The cleanse, which has been around for over 50 years, has now grown in popularity and become more of a quick weight loss secret. The Master Cleanse involves abstaining from eating hard foods and drinking nothing but the juice mixture for two or more weeks.
The Master Cleanse Recipe (single serving)
2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons grade-B organic maple syrup
1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper
10 ounces filtered water
The plan calls for six servings of the above recipe per day for 4-14 days.
Another part of the Master Cleanse is a “salt water flush” which consists of mixing 2 teaspoons of salt in a quart of warm water each morning. In addition to the “salt water flush,” a laxative tea at night is also recommended as part of the cleanse.
Well of course you will loose weight drinking all this crazy stuff. Be warned you can also get some pretty unpleasant side effects including but not limited to: dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation and nausea.
I would definitely consult your doctor before embarking on a diet regime like this. Especially if you have any health issues. Has anyone actually tried the master cleanse?
I do drink water throughout the day with lemon juice and cayenne pepper in it. I do feel like it helps with bloat and it makes my stomach feel flatter. I don’t mind the taste either but it is spicy! However, I am also eating throughout the day so I am definitely not on the master cleanse.
