I always work out hard and try to eat healthy during the week. The weekends are another story because you can’t be good ALL the time.

I’ve been trying to eat really healthy, especially during the week, so that I can see more results from my sweat sessions. I am finding that the most important things are:
1. Avoid cakes, candies, cookies, donuts and pies
2. Avoid white bread (whole wheat is fine with portion control)
3. Eat protein with EVERY meal in order to stay full and build lean muscle
4. Drink a ton of water all day, especially if you work out regularly

A couple of friends have asked me what I eat during the day and I am pretty routine during the week.

I start my morning with a big glass of water on the way to work and then when I get to work I drink my first sip of black coffee around 8:00 a.m. Sometimes I add skim milk, but never any cream or sugar.

Then I eat a handful of berries or fruit with a breakfast bar (not all three) from the group below. I love Oatmega and Rev Glo Bars. They are very high in protein. Remember…protein at every meal.

I eat 14 raw almonds at 10:30 a.m. so I am not completely starving come lunchtime. Almonds have protein!

My lunch typically consists of a salad with chicken, hard boiled egg, or some sort of protein. Yes, I use dressing. Today I had a cup of Soutwest tortilla soup and a few bites of the cheese and veggies from a flatbread pizza. Notice I did not eat the white pita from the flatbread. Notice I am not doing carb free because carbs are in everything including fruits and vegetables.

I always have either a banana with natural peanut butter or an apple with natural peanut butter at 4:30 p.m.

Dinner is around 7:00 and is similar to lunch with a protein and vegetable. I love Nourish Bowls because they are so quick and easy. If I worked out really hard, I’ll even add a protein shake with a teaspoon of natural peanut butter to fuel my muscles. It’s so important to eat protein after a workout to see the fruits of your labor.

I ate a salad with cashews and pepitas and a protein shake tonight.

I could never eat like this all of the time though, so on the weekends a will splurge. I look forward to splurging. You cant be good all the time, but you also can’t have your cake and eat it too, so it’s back to good every Monday.
