Celebrate International Women’s Day with thredUP

International Women's DayInternational Women’s Day is just around the corner! Celebrated across the globe on Thursday, March 8, this important day encourages women everywhere to “press for progress” on the timely issue of gender parity. Hundreds of organizations and corporations will leverage International Women’s Day as an opportunity to further the discussion about challenging stereotypes and forging the positive visibility of women.

Shop Her ClosetSeveral months ago I had the opportunity to share a review about thredUP, the world’s largest online secondhand shopping destination. I’m excited to share that thredUP will be honoring International Women’s Day with the Shop Her Closet: 30 Best Dressed campaign. This exciting experience, allows shoppers to browse the closets and learn the style hacks of 30 of thredUP’s most popular suppliers and members. With spring on the horizon, all of us could use a few new items in our closet, and so this campaign is perfectly timed to give us all a glimpse into the coveted closets of several successful women. It’s a great way to not only profile these 30 iconic women and their accomplishments but to celebrate ALL women as we press for progress in our own lives. Plus, it’s so much fun to get a glimpse into the style inspirations for these female powerhouses.

Even better, in honor of International Women’s Day, ALL proceeds from the Shop Her Closet campaign will be donated to Girls, Inc.! In partnership with schools and at designated centers, Girls, Inc. focuses “on the development of the whole girl. She learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthyeducated, and independent.” Girls Inc. is an ideal partner during the celebration of International Women’s Day, as its principles are all about empowering girls early on to be future leaders and influencers – and to always push for equality. Now, as a SHOP NOWdevoted thredUP shopper, I don’t need an additional reason to browse the thousands of items on the site. However, knowing that the profits from my purchases will benefit such an amazing cause is certainly extra motivation for enhancing my wardrobe!

Recently, I went to thredUP with a strict budget ($50) and a specific need: two dresses for spring weddings that are fast approaching. Not only did I find two dresses, but I was able to purchase THREE stylish dresses that will work perfectly for the weddings and other springtime events like Easter, Mother’s Day and a June beach vacation. Best of all, I stayed on budget! And one of the dresses still has tags attached. There’s no way I would have been able to find one, much less three, gorgeous dresses at the department store or even at a retailer like Target.

And while I wait for my polka dot box to arrive, I think I’ll check out the Shop Her Closet campaign this week for ideas that will help me take my wedding duds to the next level. Maybe shoes? Jewelry? A new handbag? Maybe all three!

Be sure to visit the International Women’s Day web site to learn more about how you can take action on March 8 and beyond, and the Girls Inc. web site for more information about this fantastic organization.
